Put Some Power Into Your Tow Truck

2017 Ford Super Duty

Towing another vehicle put a fair amount of stress on your Tow Truck.  We’ve talked previously about keeping your rig maintained, but more than that, you’ve got to have equipment that is at least spec’d for the job.  I can remember back in our early days, we were using some pretty out-of-date equipment with some pretty crappy old, OLD trucks, and as result having to deal with breakdown, it seemed, on a monthly basis.  This was not a fun time, and not something any serious business should be aspiring to.

Here’s another bottom-line for any would-be towers out there:  get yourself quality equipment and that starts with a reliable vehicle.  Luckily, the good Lord has provided us with a great business and great equipment as of late.  Okay, I’m done pontificating.  Let’s get to what I really wanted to talk about: The brand new Ford 2017 Super Duty!

Towing Capacity for Miles!

As anyone who knows me: I’m a Ford man and I simply cannot wait to get our hands on the new 2017 Super Duty for some of our flat bed towers.  This thing’s new 6.7 liter Power Stroke engine has gotten a boost for 31,500 pounds of towing capacity.  That is a lot of weight!  We talked about the ability to handle the job, this Super Duty is the real deal.  I had the chance to drive one over the weekend and was blown away!  I almost want one of our other trucks to breakdown so I can have an excuse to buy one!

The specs aren’t out yet, and we’ll post them when we get them, but here’s a breakdown of some of the newer features:

  • Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support
  • Adaptive steering
  • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) with trailer coverage
  • BoxLink with premium locking cleats
  • Factory-installed customer-placed trailer camera
  • Inflatable rear outboard safety belts
  • Multicontour front seats with Active Motion
  • Power-deployable running boards
  • PowerScope power-telescoping and power-folding trailer tow mirrors
  • Remote tailgate release with power lock
  • Standard flat load floor on SuperCab and Crew Cab
  • Stowable loading ramps
  • SYNC 3Trailer Reverse Guidance
  • Trailer tire pressure monitoring system
  • Utility lighting system (LED side-mirror spotlights)
